Project details
Caravan Bankside aims to draw foot traffic into the restaurant by maximizing the sites relationship to the street. This is achieved with the entire west elevation peeling up and into the ceiling as if a series of undulating garage doors.The remaining windows are converted into floor to ceiling apertures with fine steel fenestration. This steel window detail is repeated internally as a bold skeletal partition, an organisational element which directs the flow and efficiency of the restaurant. As the third in the Caravan series, the design continues to evolve and surprise, with an elegant marble bar running the length of the space contrasting with bare concrete, unkempt brick surfaces and raw wool upholstery. This is a textured environment, reminiscent of the grand cafes and brasseries of Europe, whilst holding on to the brands roots of essential simplicity.
